Instructions to make Red velvet cookie basket:
- In a mixing bowl, add soft butter and sugar and mix well. Now add vanilla essence and mix well. Now add all-purpose flour and baking powder. Mix well, you will get crumble texture. Now add milk to bind it into a dough.
- To make the wheel shaped cookies: Now divide the dough into two portions. Keep one portion aside and add red colour to another half portion. Now mix the red colour to knead a red dough.
- On the flat surface, keep parchment paper and put the red dough on the parchment paper. Cover the dough with another parchment paper. Now using rolling pin flatten it into 1/2 cm thick sheet. Keep aside. Similar way prepare the 1/2 cm thick sheet using the white dough.
- Now keep the red sheet down and white sheet up. Using knife or pizza cutter, cut the uneven edges to give square or rectangular shape. Now carefully roll the sheets together. Roll it a bit to make it tight cylindrical shape. Now using knife of pizza cutter, cut into 9-10 1/2 cm thick wheels. Using finger carefully press each of the wheels to flatten them a bit.
- Preheat the oven in 180°C. Now bake the cookies in 160°C for about 6-12 minutes.
- For marble cookies: Gather the cut unused portions from the above-mentioned cookie sheet. Now bind them together. Using rolling pin flatten into 1/2 cm thickness. Now using heart shaped cookie cutter, cut into multiple cookies, bake them as per above instructions.
- For basic heart/round shaped white cookies: As mention in the above process, prepare the white cookie dough, don't add any colour. Flatten using rolling pin and the using cookie cutters give desired shape. Bake them as per the instructions.
- For Bicolor heart shaped cookie:using the above method, first prepare the white cookie dough. Now divide into two portions in 2:1 ratio. In the smaller portion, add red food colour and knead red dough. Keep aside. Now using rolling pin, flatten the white portion and cut multiple small hearts using cookie cutter.
- Now keep the white mini hearts one above other to make a log, apply little water in between to attach them to each other. Keep in freezer for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, take them out and cover with red portion all over the white heart log. Roll it a bit to make the log tight. Keep in freezer for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes, take the log out. Cut into 1/2 cm thick wheels. Bake them as per instructions.
